Welcome to the Ready Set Rev podcast where we talk about all things automovet enthusiasts
0:05
Today we're going to be going through five different stories that happened over the past week
0:09
as well as the car of the week, which is a car that I have been thinking a lot about
0:13
and I want to share more information about with you guys. And at the end, I'm going to be giving you guys a sneak peek kind of into what I am doing on a day-to-day basis right now
0:22
to move my business as an automotive content creator forward. And we'll see how it goes
0:28
This is the first podcast that I have done. So make sure to leave your comments down below
0:32
If there's things that you want me to talk about, things you want to hear my opinion on
0:36
and I hope you guys enjoy this as much as I am. All right, so first new story of the week is that Apple kind of pseudo-announces
0:44
that they are canceling their car. Now, Apple has never actually come out and announced fully
0:50
that they have a car in production. However, some leaks have come out that Apple is canceling all of their car plans
0:56
They've been wanting to do this since about 2014. They've been even bringing in a bunch of automotive executives to help them make decisions and move the project forward
1:06
And they spent billions of dollars on building out this Apple car platform
1:10
And it's come out, they haven't officially announced it, but it's basically come out that they are moving their whole team over from building this autonomous EV car over to generative AI
1:21
So completely moving them away from the automotive sector. So this is actually really interesting
1:26
don't fully know that I would have bought an Apple car. I mean, I do use an iPhone 15 pro, which is in fact
1:34
when I'm filming this podcast with. But you know, I have a little bit of a hard time thinking that
1:39
Apple would ever be able to build a good car. They definitely aren't in the automotive business
1:43
They're more in the, obviously, in the tech side of things. So I don't know that I would have
1:47
trusted an Apple car, at least in the first generation anyways. It reminds me of just a brand new
1:52
company and I kind of would worry a little bit that they would be focusing more on the tech
1:56
less on the driving dynamics, and ask for an odd move enthusiast, something that just really likes cars. I would worry a little bit that it just wouldn't be up to par for an actually good
2:06
car that would be fun to drive and use and not just essentially feel like an iPhone with wheels
2:12
But who knows I could be wrong on that and who knows exactly how far other than people that
2:17
were on the team itself, how far along in the process of building that car they were
2:22
But it's an interesting thing, an interesting news story, that Apple is moving away from the automotive sector
2:28
And who knows, maybe someday we'll still see an Apple car, but today isn't going to be that day
2:33
The next bit of news is going to be that Ford announces the new F-150 Lightning concept vehicle
2:40
Now this is not a vehicle that is ever going to hit production. So this is a street version of the switchback that we heard a couple months ago
2:48
There was the F-150 Lightning Switchback, which was basically a sensor. essentially an electric raptor. And at that time, they said there was going to be a more
2:55
street-going version of that truck. And that is what we're seeing now. Of course, they haven't
3:00
unveiled the actual styling of the truck. They have released a bit of a sound bite of it
3:04
And of course, it sounds like pretty much any electric vehicle performance vehicle where it has
3:08
that massive wind to it. But they haven't shown off what it looks like, although we will
3:13
be learning more about it as we get a little bit closer to the Pikes Peak Hill climb, because
3:17
they are going to be competing in that with this F-150 lightning concept. So I
3:22
I'm excited to see what they're doing there because this will be the first more street-going F-150 lightning truck that they have built
3:28
And so it'll be kind of cool to see the direction that they're taking with that. But of course, I also wouldn't expect a production version of this truck, unfortunately
3:35
because that really just isn't where the market is going. It's obvious that off-road is really the big fad right now
3:40
And unfortunately, the lightning name of the past, the gas version of the lightning that came out a while back
3:46
Those just aren't popular anymore. So unfortunately, you probably won't see a production version of this
3:50
I think it's much more likely that we'll see a production version of the Switchback instead
3:55
which I sure will probably be called something like the F Raptor Lightning SVT Raptor whatever some long name but it will probably be pretty cool
4:05
The next bit of news comes to Fisker. I don't talk much about Fisker on this channel, but I think it is a big deal
4:12
I have had a chance to see the Fisker SUV in person when I was over in Munich this last year
4:17
and I honestly thought it was pretty cool. Sure, it's pretty much just a generic EV
4:21
There's nothing crazy special about it. They have some cool features. It feels nice. It is a little bit more luxurious of a vehicle. I think people are giving a little bit of a bad rap
4:29
and it doesn't really deserve that, but it is a decent vehicle overall
4:35
However, they have been running into a bunch of sales issues and just production issues
4:40
It seems like they kind of are on the peak of failure in shutting down. They're trying to figure out their dealer network
4:46
They originally were trying to sell other vehicles directly to consumers, just like Tesla is
4:50
and a lot of the other manufacturers are trying to kind of move towards. However, they just weren't seeing a ton of success there, so they are trying to kind of move more
4:57
into having a dealer network. What they're trying to do is kind of insert themselves into existing
5:02
dealers, have their own little showroom inside of dealers. And I don't think they've really seen
5:07
that completely work quite yet because it just takes a little while to build that network
5:11
In the meantime, it actually sounds like Nissan might be investing in the company. And if that does
5:17
happen, that could be a really big deal for the company because it could give them a really good
5:20
runway of having a big OEM backing them and keeping them going as they get off the ground
5:26
because I really do like Fisker cars. I think they're pretty cool. And I think they are a nice vehicle
5:32
They just have never quite been able to get going, whether it be the old version of Fisker
5:36
before they went out of business or the new version of Fisker under new ownership
5:40
I think it's a compelling vehicle at a decent price. I really kind of wish the best for them
5:46
I hope it does work. However, right now it seems they are having a bit of financial issues
5:52
Next bit of news is that the Bugatti W-16 is officially going away
5:59
So Bugatti just announced and showed off some video of the new V-16 engine
6:04
So it's no longer going to be a W-16 engine. The W-16 engine was originally two VR-6 V-6 engines
6:10
that were made it together to create a W-6, essentially. So it's two V-6 is put together to create a W
6:17
And the new version is a V-16, so we can assume it's completely from the ground-up-built engine
6:23
instead of two engines made it together. So I'm really hoping, this could be an incredibly awesome engine, and it sounds pretty cool as well
6:29
I'll leave a link down on the description of this podcast if you guys want to hear what that does
6:34
sound like. It is sad to see the W-16 go away. Of course, we are still waiting for the Blede to deliver, and I think that's going to be
6:40
one of the last W-16 engine cars to be released by Bugatti, as this new V-16 engine is going
6:46
to be showing up in the successor to the Sharon, and I'm pretty excited for it
6:51
Of course, they did also announce that the new Bugatti is going to be a hybrid, so not only is it
6:55
be a v-16 instead of a w-16 but it's going to have a hybrid system as well which i think is pretty
7:02
exciting i think honestly a hybrid system can be considerably better than doing something like a quad
7:06
turbo by turbo any of that kind of stuff just because you have that instant torque you don't have to
7:11
wait for the turbo to spool up and it's just it seems like a better setup for me i know a lot of people
7:16
disagree with that because people don't necessarily like evs and don't like hybrid setups but i
7:21
honestly think when it comes to hypercars like this it has been proven that
7:25
that they can be really, really good, they can be reliable, give really good torque, and kind of can
7:30
space in between these shifts so that you don't lose any speed in between shifts, even though
7:35
shifts are crazy fast nowadays with the new hypercars. But I am pretty excited about this news
7:41
and I'm excited to see what the successor to the shoe run looks like. In the next bit of news today
7:45
comes down to the fact that EVs are waning in demand. So as you probably are fully aware
7:51
manufacturers have been pushing electric vehicles for a really long time. I personally
7:55
I pretty impartial between gas and electric I think they both do have their space I think there a lot of space for the hybrid drive train as well However I do think that manufacturers have a little bit thought maybe the market would move to EV a little bit faster that it has been
8:11
And I don't think that's really panned out. Now, Toyota's been talking about this for a really long time
8:14
They have been pushing heavily into hybrids, and the only electric vehicles they've made have been a bit subpar with range
8:22
And honestly, it seems like their business plan of sticking to hybrids
8:25
is kind of working out for them. Because they've been pushing into development
8:29
of something that might be a little bit more long term for the short term
8:34
Sure, EVs may have a bit bigger of a market share moving forward
8:38
maybe 10, 20 years down the road, but you also kind of have to stay in business
8:44
So these manufacturers are starting to find that people just aren't buying EVs as fast as they thought
8:49
And so what manufacturers are doing is things like Ford, they are cutting production of their vehicles
8:54
including stop sales, of doing things like the F-150 Lightning because those are piling up a dealership floors
9:00
And then you also have things like Tesla. They are cutting prices on their cars to drive up demand
9:05
Obviously, the lower price that you have, the more demand you're going to have, but of course, lower profit margins
9:10
And then companies like GM are even pushing out building new EVs
9:15
Like we haven't even seen like the new Silverado EV or the GMC Sierra EV
9:20
Those haven't come out and I think they're continuing to push those out until they start seeing the demand of an EV pickup truck
9:25
But anyways, it's an interesting thought and maybe the market's going to be changing a little bit
9:31
Maybe we're going to be seeing a little bit more marketing online towards hybrids instead of electric vehicles
9:37
So that does it for the news. So I'm going to be moving into the car of the week
9:41
And obviously, this is the first time I've done a podcast. So I'm going to be talking about one of my favorite cars
9:47
And I know I do talk a lot about electric vehicles on this channel and a lot of my videos and short-form videos and that kind of stuff
9:53
And that's just because that is really heavily what the news is around right now
9:57
However, one of my favorite vehicles right now is the Ford F-150 Raptor R
10:03
This is an incredible vehicle. I'm a huge fan of the Raptor nameplate
10:08
In fact, one of my favorite vehicles I have reviewed so far is the original Raptor the first
10:13
generation with a 6.2 liter in it. That is an incredible vehicle
10:17
And it's like the only vehicle that I have after reviewing it gone home and be like, yep
10:21
I still want to own that vehicle. It really did live up to all the hype and stuff like that
10:28
So my dream vehicle right now is the F-150 Raptor R. It is just an incredible vehicle
10:33
It has that 5.2-liter supercharged engine. That makes 720 horsepower and 640 pound foot of torque
10:41
which is just an incredible thing for a truck. These things are so crazy fast. It is, of course
10:45
made it to a 10-speed automatic dual-clutch transmission, which just shifts incredibly fast as well
10:51
And I think these just look really cool as well. Honestly, when it comes down to it, the aesthetics are really one of the things that I like the most about it
10:58
Let's be honest, I don't do a ridiculous amount of off-roading. But I think these are just an incredible truck
11:03
So why I don't like the TRX and why the TRX is not my favorite pickup truck really comes down to how I launched the truck
11:10
So way back in the last generation, previous to 2019, they came out with the TRX concept
11:16
I don't know if you remember that. And that was an incredibly cool truck
11:20
And then I think Ram kind of made the mistake. They came out with the Ram Rebel, which is a very kind of base level pickup truck
11:26
but they gave it a front end of the TRX. I'm not sure if maybe they just never intended on pushing out the TRX
11:32
and then they ended up doing it later on. However, they gave the last generation Rebel the front end and feel of the TRX
11:41
just with none of the power. And then they came out with the TRX with the same front end
11:45
so you really had a hard time. If you had like a TRX sitting next to a Ram Rebel
11:49
Sometimes you have a hard time telling them apart if you weren somebody that was really in the world of automotive and so I think they really didn do a great job of that design on the TRX even though it is an incredible truck And honestly I really want to review one But it just it made me choose and continue to
12:07
believe that the Raptor R is continuing to be my favorite vehicle. And so you really can't go
12:12
wrong with that. And that is my car of the week. Make sure to leave down in the comments as well
12:17
What is your favorite car of the week? What is the car that you're thinking about right now that
12:21
you would want to buy and is your dream vehicle? I'd love to hear from you guys. Before you move into
12:25
what's going on in my world as an automotive influencer. Let's talk about my merch. So I have this
12:31
merch right here. This is I like cars. I love Jesus. Of course, I am a Christian. I do have other
12:36
cool merch on there that is not around that. But I am a Christian. I love to have this kind of
12:41
merchandise. And if that sounds like you as well, I am leaving a link in the description. If you guys
12:45
do want to purchase my merch, I really do appreciate it. It helps me out a ton. And back to the
12:51
podcast. So what's going on in my world? So I don't know if you guys know this. I don't know if you guys
12:55
know this, I do have a website, ReadySetrev.com, is my website. It's actually older than this
13:00
YouTube channel and whatever podcast platform you are listening to. And I have a lot of articles
13:06
on there. So I've been actually pushing out a lot more written content on there. I think it's
13:11
just kind of a very holistic business. And for example, I have some pretty cool articles that
13:15
went out this week or in the past week or so, excluding one that went out today, as I'm filming
13:20
this anyways. It's like the top four most fuel efficient pickup trucks, with one being over 30
13:27
miles per gallon. In fact, over 40 miles per gallon would be the Ford Maverick hybrid. That is an
13:31
incredibly great vehicle. Anyways, that one came out. I also just put out another article around
13:37
what the difference is between a six by six in a duly. Both have six wheels, but they're very
13:42
different purposes. So I did make that one go out here recently. Another cool article is around why
13:48
pickup trucks are not level from factory. I don't know if you've ever noticed that
13:52
Pickup trucks are level. The rear end is higher than the front end. I go into why that is and what
13:57
the purpose behind that is. And then one of my favorite articles that went out recently, I did a
14:01
short form video for it as well, is what BMWs have a manual transmission. There's only three of
14:05
them right now, and that article details that. And then another one that's very, very obscure is
14:10
why do dealers over inflate your tires? I don't know if you've noticed that whenever you leave a
14:15
dealership and then you start driving around, you realize my time. are kind of overinflated, and I talk about why that isn't that article
14:22
So I've just been pushing out a lot of articles around that kind of stuff
14:26
and I'd love for you guys to check that out. And then outside of doing a lot of articles
14:30
I've also been chasing down a lot of really cool cars, including just leaving business cards on anybody that has a cool car
14:37
trying to get in contact with people. But I am trying to chase down a lot of really cool enthusiast vehicles
14:43
Some cool ones that I've been talking with people about is like a Kia EV6, Tesla Model 3
14:48
that is actually extremely modified and I'm really excited about that one
14:53
I also have some cool leads on things like a Ford GT maybe two different generations of the Ford GT
14:59
I'm really really hoping I can make that happen because I just love to be around those cars
15:04
I am looking for a bunch of different supercars if you're somebody that has a supercar
15:08
or just a really cool car, let me know Supercar's Harpercars I might travel a little bit for
15:13
because I'd love to check them out. Ooh, as I mentioned earlier, I do want to review a RAM TRX
15:19
I do have one of those I might be able to get a hold of here soon. And then, of course, I do have a lot of overlanding type vehicles that are incoming
15:27
And anyways, I do spend a lot of time trying to find review cars so I can create some really cool long-formish form content around them
15:35
So that has been a lot of what I've been doing in my day-to-day business. So anyways, that is the end of the podcast
15:41
Thank you guys so much for listening. Make sure to leave down in the comments what kind of content you love to see in these podcasts
15:48
If you have any specific questions, I would love to do a section of these videos, just answering your guys' questions and giving my opinion on whatever automotive enthusiast topic that you can think of
15:58
And I thank you guys for listening and have a great one
