Electric vehicles used to be bland, slow, and expensive. While they may still be more expensive than their gas alternative, they have dropped off the bland and slow portion of things.

With so many brands (both legacy and up-and-coming) starting to come out with full-electric vehicles, some cool alternatives are finally on the market today! These are the top ten coolest electric vehicles (based on my opinion alone) in the USA today.

1. Porsche Taycan Cross Turismo

Coolest Practical Sports Car

Range: 235 Miles (378 km)
0 - 60: 3.1 Seconds
MSRP: $86,700

The Porsche Taycan is one of the original fast sports sedans; however, in 2021, they released the Cross Turismo, a wagon version of the vehicle, making this one of my favorite, coolest electric cars on the market today. Not only can it go zero to sixty in just 2.6 seconds, but it can do it with the whole family and a dog in the back (not recommended).

2. GMC Hummer EV

Coolest Luxury Off-Roader

Specifications:
  • Horsepower: 1000
  • Torque: 11,500
  • GVWR: 10,550
  • MSRP: $108,700
  • Range: 343 miles (552 km)
  • 0 - 60: 3.3 seconds
  • Towing Capacity: 7,500 pounds

The GMC Hummer EV may be over 10,000 pounds, but that doesn’t stop it from being a competent off-roader (including a crab walk mode) and as fast as many sports cars (3.3 second zero-to-sixty time). Of course, its MSRP is north of $100,000 pushes it out of many people’s budget, but it doesn’t stop it from being an incredibly cool pickup truck.

3. Rivian R1S

Coolest Reasonable SUV

MSRP: $72,500
Range: 321
0 - 60: 3 seconds

While the R1T was originally one of my favorite electric vehicles on the market, the R1S has succeeded in being a better overall vehicle. With a shorter wheelbase, third-row seating, and some of the most impressive off-roading features, this electric SUV can do it all and is extremely cool. Is it also one of the more budget-friendly electric SUVs on the market?

4. Hyundai Ioniq 5

Coolest Consumer EV

Range: 220
MSRP: $41,450
0 - 60: 4.5 seconds

The Ioniq 5 may not be the coolest EV today, but it is one of the coolest and cheapest electric vehicles. It has distinctive styling, quick acceleration (5.2 seconds 0-60), and sedan styling, with all the benefits of a crossover. If you are on a budget and looking for an electric vehicle that isn’t like all the rest (a teardrop shape), the Ioniq 5 is a fantastic choice.

5. Rimac Nivera

Coolest Supercar

MSRP: $2,200,000
Range: 340 Miles (547 km)
0 - 60: 1.85 Seconds

While the price tag of over 2 million dollars might not be achievable by most people, this is one of the coolest EVs on the planet. The Nivera is one of the first and best all-electric supercars and can hit 60 miles per hour in just 1.8 seconds. With almost 2000 horsepower (1,914 to be exact) and 2,360 lb-ft of torque, and a top speed of 256 miles per hour, this thing is completely nuts and is by far the coolest EV on this list. Now if only I could afford one.

6. Rivian R1T

Coolest Pickup Truck
Specifications:
  • Horsepower: 600 - 835
  • Torque: 600 - 908
  • GVWR: 8,532
  • MSRP: $67,500
  • Range: 314 Miles (505 km)
  • 0 - 60: 3 seconds
  • Towing Capacity: 11,000 pounds (up to)

The Rivian R1T was the first actual electric pickup on the market and was a complete hit. This mid-size pickup can do it all. With sports car speeds, pickup truck usability, great off-road prowess, and a reasonable price tag (for an EV pickup), it hits everything you could want out of an excellent pickup truck. Even though you see these commonly on the road now, they are still an incredibly cool vehicle to see in person.

7. Tesla Model S Plaid

Coolest Fast Sedan

MSRP: $114,990
Range: 405 Miles (550 km)
0 - 60: 2.1 Seconds

The Model S Plaid started the speed wars for electric sedans! It still sits near the top of the heap as one of the best electric sedans for those who want insane speeds. With a 0-60 of 2.1 seconds, it is just a little behind the Rimac Nevera we discussed earlier, at a fraction of the price and an additional two seats. It doesn’t get much cooler than that. Unfortunately, the Plaid is indistinguishable from the base Model S, which needs to change.

8. Audi e-tron GT

Coolest Sedan

MSRP: $104,900
Range: 236 Miles (380 km)
0 - 60: 2.9 Seconds

If you enjoy electric Sedans and don’t like the name Tesla in your household, an e-Tron GT is a highly cool option. Based on the same platform as its corporate twin, the Porsche Taycan, this e-Tron GT is still fast (2.9 seconds 0-60) and is a more luxurious rather than sporty sedan. I am a huge fan of Audi (I have owned a couple myself), and I would likely choose this over the Taycan daily.

9. BMW i7

Coolest Luxury Sedan

MSRP: $119,300
Range: 296 Miles (476 km)
0 - 60: 4.5 Seconds

If you like the 7-Series (who doesn’t) from BMW, but wish it was electric, let me introduce you to the i7. This full-electric, full-size luxury sedan offers many different features; however, I need help getting over its massive 31.3-inch screen that you can opt for in the back seats. There isn’t anything much cooler than that.

10. Ford Mustang Mach-E

I get commissions for purchases made through links in this post.

Coolest Mid-Size Crossover

Range: 312
MSRP: $46,895
We earn a commission if you make a purchase, at no additional cost to you.

The Mach-E initially did not have a warm reception from the automotive community, mainly because it was an electric crossover loosely based on the Mustang nameplate that has decades (and decades) of being a gas-powered, two-doored sports car. Regardless of its namesake, the Mach-E has now found its place as a fantastic electric SUV with a reasonable price tag. If you like the styling of a Mustang but wish it was electric and four-doors, this is your best solution.

Which electric car is the most fun to drive?

Electric vehicles have notoriously been like driving a hair dryer. However, we have fun driving cars in this most recent EV generation! While the Rimac Nivera may be the most fun-to-go EV on the planet, there are better fun-to-drive cars.

Instead, I would give the Rivian R1S this title! Sure, it isn’t the fastest EV on this list; however, it does offer the most well-rounded experience out of all of them.

Taking the family to the store, it can do that. Do you want some 0-60 thrill? It can do that. Want to do some off-roading? It can do that.

It has everything you could want and can give you the most enjoyable experience (at a reasonable price).

Which EV is the best value for money?

Having a cool EV doesn’t always make it the best electric vehicle for the money. The Hyundai Ioniq 5 is the best EV for the money from this list above. Sure, it has the lowest 0-60 score of the bunch. However, it is highly usable, with plenty of features, but you can leave your budget as far as possible to make it happen.

Conclusion

So there you have it, those are the top ten coolest electric vehicles on the market today! Does this list make sense to you? With names like Rimac and Hyundai on the same list, it’s hard to imagine where else that could be true than this one.
