What is gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR)?

A gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) is the maximum operational weight/mass of a vehicle as specified by the manufacturer. This includes the vehicle’s chassis, body, engine, engine fluids, fuel, accessories, driver, passengers and cargo but excludes that of the trailing unit(s) if it has any.

The term is used primarily in North America and refers to the maximum allowable total weight of the vehicle and everything it’s carrying. While electric vehicles may not have fluids, engines or anything that a gas vehicle has, it does have a massive battery, which generally makes it so that electric vehicles are considerably heavier than their gas counterparts.

What does curb weight mean?

When it comes to electric vehicles, curb weight is the weight of the vehicle without passengers or cargo. Curb weight includes the weight of the car’s body, engine, fuel, and all other factory-installed equipment. It does not, however, include the weight of fluids such as oil and coolant.

Conclusion

If you are in the market for an electric vehicle, it is important to keep in mind that electric vehicles generally weigh more than their gas counterparts. This is due to the battery and electric motor that electric vehicles have.
