Air suspension has become a much better and more viable option over the past decade. While my 2007 Tahoe was plagued by issues from faulty air suspension, reliability has improved considerably, leaving us with SUVs that can handle more towing capacity, have better ride quality, and raise and lower themselves at a moment’s notice.
You are in the right place if you want a new SUV with air-ride suspension. Here are my favorite options, followed up by every option on the market today, so you can choose which works best for you.
Table of Contents
1. Chevy Tahoe

While my 2007 Chevy Tahoe is well known for air suspension failures, Tahoe’s newest generation has none. These new full-size SUVs are incredibly impressive, and the front-end styling looks considerably better on the Tahoe than on the Silverado, meaning you get the best of both worlds.
With this most recent generation, the air ride suspension allows you to raise the vehicle two inches at will and then lower it down to allow for easier access to cargo areas and to help with gas mileage while on the go.
This option can be chosen at any trim level when building your Tahoe!
2. Porsche Macan

The Porsche Mecan is a long-running SUV with air-ride suspension, and it plays a big part in allowing it to be sporty like a 911 yet practical like a Cayenne. Much like most other SUVs offering this feature, it raises and lowers itself depending on what you need (comfort, sport, or even off-road). However, this feature is only included on the GTS trim level.
3. Tesla Model X

The Tesla Model X may be the most polarizing vehicle on this list. Still, it quickly makes it onto the list, as it has featured an air ride suspension since its release in 2012. This suspension also plays a significant role in its ability to handle its massive weight of over 6,000 pounds due to its heavy and oversized battery pack. It wouldn’t be a luxury EV SUV without an air ride.
4. BMW X7

As the shock of the BMW X7’s massive face and split headlights wears off, we are left with a competent, sporty, three-row SUV with plenty of technology and an engaging drive. This engaging drive is made even better with its available air-ride suspension. This air ride suspension is primarily used for a comfortable ride. However, it also plays a role in lowering the vehicle down to give passengers easier access.
5. Lincoln Aviator

I am a massive fan of the Ford Explorer, having owned multiple. With the new Aviator being based on the Explorer, just fancier, it isn’t much of a reach to consider the Aviator one of my favorite SUVs. Whether it be the fact that all of the sounds made from the vehicle are a live orchestra or the impressive hybrid drivetrain, it’s hard to ignore. Its air ride suspension also plays a significant role in giving it a smooth ride, and it can even see bumps coming and brace for them.
6. Volvo XC90

Yes, Volvo still makes cars, and good ones too! The XC90 is well known for its refined luxury, safety, and third-row seating; however, it is lesser known lesser known for its ride on an air-ride suspension. Ultimately, there aren’t any fun party tricks with this system in the XC90 (which is typical Volvo), and it is primarily there to add comfort to the ride and adjust on the fly.
7. Lamborghini Urus

- Horsepower: 657
This list wouldn’t be complete without one of my all-time favorite SUVs, the Lamborghini Urus. Sure, it doesn’t have a V12 or V10 under the hood like its other siblings. Still, it makes up for it in practicality and insane styling (plus plenty of performance). The air suspension in the Urus not only helps with comfort but also plays a pivotal role in giving its off-road credentials by raising it up a couple of inches to give it clearance enough to leave the pavement for short periods of time.
8. Audi RS Q8
So you wanted a Lamborghini Urus but couldn’t stand the looks or the price? That is where the Audi RS Q8 comes into play. Utilizing the same platform means it can part-share components like the engine and air ride suspension. Its more subdued (somewhat) styling means you can drive this on regular roads without being swarmed by crowds, which is a significant benefit.
9. Lincoln Navigator

Lincoln Navigator is an SUV known for its luxurious features and comfortable ride. One of the features that makes the Lincoln Navigator so comfortable is its air suspension. Air suspension is a type of suspension that uses airbags instead of springs.
This allows the Lincoln Navigator a smoother ride, even over bumps and uneven terrain. The air suspension also helps level out the Lincoln Navigator when carrying a heavy load. As a result, the Lincoln Navigator can provide a comfortable ride for both driver and passengers.
10. Land Rover Range Rover Velar

I don’t talk about Land Rover nearly enough on this site, and I should! The Range Rover Velar is an insane, high-end luxury SUV with some of the craziest luxury features. However, all that luxury sits on an air ride suspension to help it glide as you are chauffeured around in complete relaxation. Much like the Volvo above, this vehicle’s air suspension primarily lowers the car during loading and regulates bumps; nothing too fancy outside of that.
